Pretty much all of the same information already out there however with some of the new game play footage that was released in the new global agenda video fan kit that Hi-Rez has released today.

This game looks like it’s shaping up to be pretty damn fun :)

Check out the new interview here.

What Global Agenda could learn from Guild Wars.

Guild Wars is one of the most underrated games out there. While personally I believe it’s time has come and gone, there are a lot of things that most games take for granted that Guild Wars really shined on. I would like to focus on two of those things that I think Global Agenda and all other PvP focused games should take away from it.

People like instant gratification.

For a game that has a primary focus on the PvP side of things it’s important to allow new players to embrace that immediately. The character creation system that GW has allows for this by giving new players the opportunity to create a templated character that is strictly limited to PvP which they can level up in addition to the typical route of PvE  -> Max Level - > PvP dichotomy.

These characters can gain points through their normal play and use them in order to purchase any of the skills for any type of class specialization that they want. This gives the player the option to do exactly what they are eager to do and at the same time gives them the freedom to be whatever they want to nearly whenever they want to.

Character specialization and how the skill bar is a balanced games best friend.

When you empower the players by essentially giving them a character specialization sandbox to play in, you absolutely level the playing field. If anyone, through time, can gain the ability to spec their character in anyway that they want to it will allow them to adapt to any given situation. It provides almost ‘fluid’ game play in that you can change your tactics based upon what your opponent is presenting you with.  It’s like channeling Bruce Lee and having him say become water.

On top of all of that, having a limited set of skills that people can bring to any given battle creates a massive level of strategy that makes the most of the game and it’s mechanics. This puts the focus on the developers to ensure that gameplay balance is a top priority.

While some people may not enjoy the ‘meta-game’ of most games out there, they unwittingly are a part of it subconciously. It’s this meta game that ultimately provides an environment that is focused on players beating the crap out of eachother and gives it real depth!

Ultimately however, there are a lot of parts that go into making a game fun for a very long time. I along with many others have faith that Global Agenda will be that type of game.

Reminder to sign up for the beta!

Don’t just drool over this game. Do something about it! Sign up for the beta here.

Hopefully it starts sooner than later. My assumption is that they are working on finalizing and fine tuneing gameplay and want to get that all squared away before opening up a bit more to the public. Either way, I can’t wait.

Healing with a HUD, how would this effect players?

Posted: April 12th, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Opinion | No Comments »

So there was a small discussion going on @ the Global Agenda forums about how he medic class will be capable of seeing the status of their team mates.

Hi-Rez Eric stated that there is an option that allows you to turn on or off to display all of your team mates along with their health on the HUD. This has me wondering a bit though about how useful this information would actually be. If combat is anything nearly as frantic as I expect it to be then glancing over at the health of your team mate could mean death. On the other hand though, if you are in a team that communicates and you know where everyone is, knowing if someone is losing health because they’re battling elsewhere could also prove to be rather useful information.

There already are health bars that show above your teams heads as they run around. So how effective could a hud really be when it all does is take your eyes off of the action? Personally I don’t like huds, it’s one of the many many reasons why I hate healing in WoW as an example. Staring at unit frames and bars instead of focusing on everything going on around you is more than a bit of a pain.

I guess time will tell on how this all fits together.

Global Agenda, taker of virginity?

Posted: April 12th, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: News | No Comments »

Well, MMO virginity anyway. It’s a game, not a miracle.

Evan however has decided that this could actually be the one to pop that proverbial cherry. Here’s hopeing that it doesn’t disappoint, and that a game such as this could in fact provide a broader appeal over the conventional genres that we see far to often in the MMO space.

Global Agenda will be available through Steam!

Yes, you read that right. Global Agenda will be available for purchase upon release through the Steam platform. This is fantastic news really. Aside from the massive reach that the steam platform has in and of itself, it provides an extremely simple and efficient means for individuals to purchase and download the game immediately. More developers need to start taking advantage more of this platform, since it’s pretty much indispensable.
